Dead Rising 2

Somehow I recently got very addicted to Dead Rising 2. I played the original Dead Rising for a bit, and thought it was fun, but I didn't really get very far with it. I guess I had trouble getting used to the gameplay style, how you're almost required to just keep dying and restarting the game, carrying over your stats, and some side missions you just had to let go your first time around.

So when Dead Rising 2 was out, I was interested but not super motivated, I guess. But for whatever reason, I purchased the standalone prologue game, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. I didn't even play it right away!

But when I did, it sunk its teeth in me! I think the best aspect of Case Zero was that it took the basic experience of the main games and shrunk it down to a bite-sized bit. Instead of 3+ in-game days, Case Zero only lasts for 12+ in-game hours. So it's a lot easier to just say "whatever" and restart the game, and easier to get a feel for where everything is in the relatively smaller game world, and it's faster to sample the gameplay elements like combo weapons, juice mixing, etc.

And the fact that you can carry over some stats from Case Zero into DR2 waa very nice! Case Zero is probably one of the cooler things Capcom has done lately. And it was only $5!

Now to work my way through Dead Rising 2, then wait for the standalone epilogue, Case West...
